I'm kicking up 727's YELP 3-star rating with five big stars based on my fist time in the door. While traveling to Scotland on business, a colleague and I dropped in to the 727 after midnight to get some late night authentic U. K. Fish & Chips.

What I did not expect, was to also have my first experience with deep fried pizza!  It was awesome...Friggin' fantastic!

The fish wasn't bad either...two large cod fillets and loaded with a huge order of fries. Cash only here as they take no plastic. Thank goodness for the ATM around the corner.

Great U.K. experience for a Yankee.

Just be a chip shop, like you are...!

Fish and chips, tick. Sausage and chips, tick. Essentially, typical chip shop stuff, you can't go wrong here for a late night (chip shop based) snack.

Never, I say NEVER, order anything else. Beware the pizzas, beware the kebabs, or any other non-chippy food. Absolutely dreadful. As a resident near here for 15 years I always keep trying here (a bit of a captive market at the corner of Byres Road)...but every diversion from anything chippy-like is a tragedy.

For kebabs or pizzas, go along the street to Cafe India...anywhere else really. Kebab in a tortilla wrap anyone? No salad, just meat and a squirt of chilli sauce mmmm...I don't think so. Woeful.

when i saw the rating on this place, i thought to myself, "i must be missing something, this place is not four-star worthy.." when we came here, it was 1am and the only thing that seems to be open in the area. Their menu ranged from fish and chips to all sorts of pasta to kebabs to pekoras...the oddest array of food offered.

After receiving our donner kebab and chicken pekora, i was a bit disgusted. Perhaps I'm just not familiar with the idea of late night fast foods in scotland, but those long pieces of bright red chicken strips didnt look like pekoras to me, and those long slivers of lamb on top of the the chips is what you would call a donner kebab?

The reviews did start to make more sense as you read them though, because once i started eating, i realized that the chips were surprisingly tasty compared to all the other things. It's probably the only thing order-worthy at this place. The ppl working here don't seem to be very friendly either, but then again, i wouldnt be either if you had to serve a long line of drunk ppl at 2am all the time.

The 727 have always made some sinful chips.

There is something about this chippy that makes it a cut above most others on Byers Road. Selling suppers and all the usual meals you'll find in a chippy, it used to be one of my favourites when I worked in the area, or even as far back as when I was in school! It took up half my lunch time getting here but I would always make the effort.

The prices are affordable but most importantly, the chips from 727 are always fresh without being smoking hot, and nice and succulent. The fact that you can use the word "succulent" to describe a chip shop is a good sign, proving that 727 really is a slice of deep fried heaven.

Warm salty chips, cold cans of Irn Bru, brown plastic squirter of sauce, 727 has all the ingrediants that make up a good Glasgow chippy. This place is absolutely packed on a Friday and Saturday night so be prepared to wait in a queue for your post drinking carb craving.

The last time I was here my drunken brother was trying to have banter with the man behind the counter which earned him a stony stare. Can't blame him really as I can only imagine how the number of irritating folk he must serve every night.
